Group of VolunteersAs volunteers of UNC Health Nash, we play a vital role in our organization. Many times, the only thing it takes to make a positive impact on someone is a kind word or a smile. UNC Health Nash Foundation currently offers volunteer opportunities to adult volunteers who can serve long-term commitments and a summer junior volunteer program for ages 14/18. For additional information or questions, please visit the links or contact the Foundation.

"I have been volunteering in the Cardiopulmonary rehab for almost 5 years.  My favorite part about the classes is that I can inform the patients that 10 years ago I participated in the class after by-pass surgery. I want the patients to know that if they follow the plan and exercise regularly and eat a healthy diet they can go on to live a healthier life. I really enjoy the staff and admire their dedication and they never get tired of hearing about my cat!"

"I have been a Canine therapist at UNC Nash since 2018.  Prior to the pandemic, I rotated my Goldens, Cooper and Tucker, visiting the floors, along with various offices on the ground floor and first floor.  Occasionally we visited BTAR and the Cancer Center. Currently, Tucker, Mary, and I visit BTAR and the Cancer Center, along with waiting rooms near the Day hospital, and physical therapy, and some offices on the ground floor. Our favorite part of visiting is the reaction from patients who are missing their pets. A fun fact about Tucker is that when he is not working, he is ball-obsessed!"

I started my patient navigator training in 2019 to serve in the cancer unit. I am a 17 year cancer survivor and my favorite part about volunteering is the fact that I get a chance to share with them the words of our creator. When I see knowledge change fear into hope and hope change a victim into a survivor and a survivor turn pain into purpose then I know my purpose has been fulfilled.
